What is the Paleo Diet?
What is the Paleo diet and can it work for you? The Paleo Diet is fashioned after the Paleolithic era (Stone Age) and also referred to as the Caveman Diet. The diet of the Stone Age era was based on what they could catch, hunt and gather. They ate meat from the hunt, fish, fresh vegetables and fruits. The caveman’s diet was packed with natural nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It provide them with the proper weight, stamina, and blood sugar levels to sustain a healthy life of that era. Today, people who have experienced the paleo diet respond with ample energy, radiant skin tone, increased sex drive, clearer thinking, better performance and shorter recovery, after initially enduring a detox period of time. It has even shown to have reversed insulin resistance which is a contributing fator into the inability to lose fat and weight easily.
What the Paleo Diet Is and Isn’t
The Paleo diet is not really a diet, it’s a lifestyle. You don’t have to count calories, and besides calorie counting is really only the half of it, because eating 400 calories of candy vs 400 calories of vegetables will affect the body differently. The paleo lifestyle IS,… about what you no longer permit to be consumed in your body. Many of the foods which are processed are unhealthy. They are a lot of carbs and calories typically, and little nutrition. Other commercially, crossbred foods have also resulted in nutrition less food. And then there are the foods that are produced with chemicals and fertilizers that over time contributes to toxicity in the body or worse. Processed foods are eliminated in this lifestyle. Foods that occur naturally are the way to go. Grains are not part of the paleo diet. Gluten is a protein found in wheat and known to cause several medical conditions in the body including joint pain, dermatitis, reproductive issues, and acid reflux. Grains are eliminated from the paleo diet. Sugar is another overly processed food that is eliminated from the diet. In the paleo lifestyle sugar is obtained from natural foods such as fruits and honey. In the Paleo diet program you will naturally consume less carbohydrates. It is true you cannot function well with less carbs as you need them for energy. But in the US, with our food chain and processes there is an excessive amount of carbs available for easy consumption which has led to an over weight population. With less carbs the body will begin to burn fat for energy in a process called ketogensis. Less carbs in your system means less glucose for fuel and that is the point when the body starts burning fat. Dairy is all but eliminated in the Paleo lifestyle. Humans are the only animals that continue to drink milk after infancy. Many people suffer from lactose intolerance and most Paleoers go without.
